YouTube is the worlds largest online video site. They have been slow to the game when it comes to HD video but they seem to be trying to take the lead as of late.
YouTube now streams in up to 1080p. If you’re interested in the quality check out this embed below.
You’ll notice it takes some seriously fast internet to not have to let it buffer for a while, but it’s not unbearable.
They have certainly come a long way compared to the early days. This is a screencap of the compressed mess that is one of my early uploads.

Have you uploaded a 1080p video? Post a link to it in the comments.

Commenting on older news but I’ve recently been able to work on a few projects where we’re uploading at 1080p.
It’s really great but YouTube currently has these “pillar” bars on both sides which makes it look a bit nasty, hopefully Youtube changes it soon (even if it’s just white to blend with the background).
The one thing that I debate is if it’s still better just to settle for 720p over 1080p due to the loading speed.
I’ve never heard about the pillar bars issue. Good to know. I think 720p is plenty big and I don’t think 1080p is worth the added load time.
